PRACTICUM: SHORT FILM PRODUCTION

Upon successful completion of all courses in one's chosen track, students will be assigned to a number of small film productions being created by Unity Studios. These will be real productions where the directors, actors, scripts, and producers will come from different arenas of the film and television production world to take advantage of this unique production experience. Students will work on multiple productions during this time rotating through each of the jobs within their chosen track. For those whose track contains only one position, they will receive multiple productions upon which to practice their new skills. This will be completely hands-on and the hours will be long and the satisfaction of working on a film for the first time great. All students desiring certification must enroll in and complete this workshop.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses with the student's track 

Total clock hours: 120 hours (minimum)

Course length: 3 weeks

Course objective: Students completing this course will have put into action all of the skills they have learned at the Institute and gain their first, valuable production credits and on-set experiences.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION IN PRODUCTION

Those students from each training track, who have successfully completed certification, will be eligible for consideration to be accepted into this unique opportunity. Using a variety of metrics, individuals exhibiting exceptional skill and talent within their chosen track studies, will be assigned to productions (may include: feature films, short films, webisodes, commercials, music videos, and more) created or endorsed by LIMS for commercial purposes. It is here that production careers will be truly begun. For an entire trimester following the training trimester, students will be mentored on a weekly basis by key faculty from each track as they go about doing the work for which they have trained.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of all courses with the student's track and acceptance into second trimester

Course length: 8 weeks

Course Cost: $3000

Course objective: Students completing this second trimester program will have gained real-world production experience and credit and will join the roster of qualified crew for production employment opportunities at Unity Studios. Work completed during this phase may provide eligibility towards union membership where applicable.
